The Ludhiana Municipal Corporation (MC) launched a significant enforcement drive on Friday as part of its ongoing efforts to curb unauthorized construction activities across the city. Acting on direct orders from MC Commissioner Aaditya Dachalwal, officials demolished and sealed several illegal buildings that were constructed in violation of the city’s building bylaws and zoning regulations.
According to municipal officials, two illegal buildings were demolished — one on Kochar Market Road and another in Gurdev Nagar. In addition to these demolitions, five unauthorised structures were sealed in areas including BRS Nagar Road, Dugri–Jawaddi Road, and Ghumar Mandi–College Road. These actions were carried out by the MC’s Building Branch team from Zone D after repeated notices to violators failed to prompt compliance.

Crackdown Driven by New Building Regulations
The enforcement drive aligns with the city’s efforts to implement new unified building bylaws, which aim to streamline development approvals and strengthen regulatory compliance. Under these new measures, property owners are required to obtain sanctioned plans and follow established zoning norms before commencing construction. Authorities have reiterated a zero-tolerance policy for unauthorized construction and warned that future violations will result in immediate demolition or sealing of structures.
Municipal officials emphasised that the crackdown is part of a broader strategy to promote planned and safe urban development. The civic body is encouraging residents and builders to adhere strictly to legal approval processes, warning that construction without proper sanction jeopardises community safety and violates city planning laws.
Message to Residents and Developers
Assistant Town Planner Harvinder Singh confirmed that all actions were taken following due process, including the issuance of prior warnings to property owners. Officials urged citizens to ensure that building plans are approved by the MC before initiating any work, and to cooperate with authorities to uphold the integrity of urban development norms.
This crackdown underscores the MC’s strengthened regulatory focus and commitment to enforcing building laws in Ludhiana. Authorities have indicated that similar enforcement activities will continue in the coming days to deter further violations and ensure orderly city growth.
